In reviewing a protocol, the Committee evaluates the following:
- the potential risks (the probability and severity) to the subjects,
- the anticipated benefits to the subjects and others,
- the specific nature of subject participation, including
- recruitment process,
- voluntary nature of participation,
- remuneration (if any) to the subject, and
- specific procedures to be followed
- the informed consent process to be employed.
After reviewing the protocol, the Committee may approve, modify, table, or deny the proposed research activity.
An appeal of a denial may only be taken back to the Committee.
